Hide
A moment to unwind in the city.
Located in Kyoto's Minami Ward, Hide serves local Kyoto-style betayaki layered on thin batter, hearty mixed okonomiyaki, and teppan dishes like tecchan udon.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just a short walk from To-ji Temple, Hide serves both Kyoto-style betayaki—built up in distinct layers of cabbage and fillings over a thin crepe-like base—and standard mixed okonomiyaki. Fillings for the betayaki range from staples like pork, squid, and shrimp to flavourful braised beef tendon or scallion. Diners can also top their okonomiyaki with soba or udon noodles to customise the dish to their preferred heartiness.
Alongside the savoury pancakes, noodle dishes cooked briskly on the iron griddle are a house mainstay. Choices include yakisoba tossed in fragrant sauce with pork or beef, as well as tecchan udon, where chewy noodles and beef offal are coated in a spicy Korean-style sauce. The teppanyaki selection also extends to appetisers such as fluffy tonpeiyaki (griddled egg wrapping tender pork), rolled omelette with beef tendon, griddled potato with cheese, and chicken neck meat, all well suited to grazing alongside a cold Sapporo beer or chuhai.
Evening service begins at 17:00, and built-in griddles at each table keep every dish piping hot throughout the meal. Because seats tend to fill quickly around dinner with neighbourhood regulars and visitors exploring the area around To-ji Temple, booking ahead is recommended if your plans are set.
